During a service the engineer cleans and checks the burner control, the heat exchanger and the water pressure, and measures the combustion (CO/CO₂). Minor defects are fixed straight away before they grow into a breakdown.
A service costs € 80 to € 160, depending on the boiler type and whether it is a one-off visit or a subscription. Many engineers offer a multi-year contract with priority for breakdowns.
Advice: have the boiler checked once a year, or at least every two years, ideally before winter. With many brands a service is required to keep the manufacturer's warranty valid.
